Software recommendation for Moodlers

Moodle has an unfortunate propensity for eating your data: you accidentally click the Back button, or your browser crashes, and everything you just typed is instantly erased with no possibility of recovery.

Enter Lazarus. This free Firefox utility saves the contents of your form data (which includes the HTML edit boxes you type into in Moodle) every time you navigate away from a page. If you lose data, you can easily recover it with a right click.

Note: this should not replace a careful system of typing into a text editor before copying and pasting into Moodle. Rather, use it a safety net for the times you forget to do that.

How to whitelist an e-mail address

Seniors, it's that time of year! College acceptance e-mails will soon arrive!

...and you might want to keep them out of the clutches of your e-mail spam filter...

To whitelist an e-mail address:
  1. Go to http://login.postini.com
  2. Sign in with your Riverdale Google Mail username/password
  3. Hey, look! It's your spam! Check to make sure nothing important was caught, then continue down this list...
  4. Click "My Settings" at top right
  5. Click "Approved Senders"
  6. Add whole e-mail addresses (e.g. person@riverdale.edu) to the "Approved Senders" list
  7. Add domains (e.g. riverdale.edu) to the "Approved Domains" list

Note: if you're generally happy with your junk mail filtering, don't add a bunch of domains to the list!
